Savvy San Franciscans who love omakase but seek out high quality at a good value may already be familiar with the various neighborhood restaurants of the Mins group, from Tamashisoul in the Marina to Sushi Hon in the Mission. As previously reported, the Mins group is in expansion mode these days, having opened two restaurants during the pandemic with Sushi Hakko in Cow Hollow and Izakaya Hon in SoMa. And now, the team is debuting their biggest concept yet: Sushi Sato opens next Tuesday, November 2, and it's the first of three new Japanese restaurants in one triple-restaurant combined space wrapping around a corner in the Tenderloin.

New parklet opens outside Simple Pleasures on outer Balboa

The Richmond District's second parklet opened on Saturday in front of Simple Pleasures Cafe at 3434 Balboa near 35th Avenue. The budget for the parklet was $26,000, one of the most expensive in the city to date. Unlike most city parklets, this one is spacious. Because the parking on that block of Balboa is slanted, the parklet is much deeper than a typical one. It took over 3 parking spaces in total.

An Urban Greenhouse Overflows With Edibles

They hired architect Ron Stanford to revive the crumbling orchid house. After tearing it down to its foundation, he framed the new 125-square-foot greenhouse with recycled old-growth fir and added stock aluminum windows and a custom steel truss. Cowan, a holistic and food-based doctor, requested a walkable roof, now accessible by metal ship's stairs. "The clients gave us some real trust. It's a beautiful site, and they gave us pretty much free rein," Stanford says.

NOPA Gets a New Parklet on Fulton Street

The North Panhandle's second parklet is under construction with completion expected within the next several days. Located on Fulton at Divisadero in front of the busy Cafe Abir and Tsunami Sushi Panhandle, the parklet replaces two parking spaces and provides a long, continuous bench for outdoor seating. Movable tables and chairs will be positioned on the smooth, concrete pavers that expand the normally crowded sidewalk. Another feature of the Fulton parklet design is the addition of a built-up corners for an enhanced sense of protection from traffic.
